Austral Bracken

Pteridium esculentum

Parts Used: stems, stalks and leaves

Medicinal Uses: Juicy young stems, well rubbed in,  was used by Indigenous people for insect bites. A tea made from leaves and leaf stalks has been used for rheumatism.

Maximum Height: Three Metres

Growing Conditions: cool and moist parts of any state

Other Uses: Reputed to be anthelmintic and astringent.
